Relate North East are an independent charity part of the national Relate Federation of charities. Relate owns the brand name which is used under licence and governs the quality of all our counselling services and service specifications, policies and procedures. We deliver relationship counselling, sex therapy, young people’s counselling and family counselling across the area from Sunderland to Scarborough. We deliver under grants and contracts in a variety of settings and also deliver education and learning workshops. The work of a Young Person’s Counsellor with Relate North East is varied, we work with young people facing a wide variety of issues and circumstances.
Job title: Young Person’s Counsellor – Schools
Contract: This is fixed term contract until July 2018, with the potential for extension
Hours/days: The post is for up to 19 hours per week over three days during term time only (approx. 14.5 hours delivery time and 4.5 hours non-contact time including clinical supervision). Working days to be negotiated.
Start-date: ASAP 2017
Salary: £24,570 per annum pro rata
Location: Work will take place across up to 2 school venues
Holidays: Annual leave is allocated on a pro rata basis (25 days full time, plus Bank Holidays) for this term time only contract of 39 weeks. Annual leave should not be taken during school term time.
Disclosure and Barring Service Certificate: Due to the nature of the work, this post will be subject to a DBS check (formerly CRB check).
Caseload: We envisage a caseload of approximately 18-25 clients per week
Responsible to: CEO and Clinical Supervisor for all clinical aspects of the work
Reporting to: CEO and Clinical Supervisor
Job Purpose: To provide a range of short-term, evidence-based therapeutic interventions to clients for which the Counsellor has been trained, across school settings and other appropriate locations. The appointed therapist will be required to work flexibly, using a range of proven interventions to meet the needs of the clients referred, who will have been identified by the schools teaching and pastoral staff.
Counsellors will work in accordance with British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Ethical Framework, and specifically BACP’s Good Practice Guidance for Counselling in Schools
